Short Biography and Research Focus

Lukas Schlegel was born and raised in London to Swiss parents. Developing an eagerness and aptitude for Chemistry from a young age, he studied for an Integrated Master's in Chemistry at Durham University immediately after leaving high school. Here, he developed a liking for organic chemistry, and undertook his Master's research project under the supervision of Prof. Ian R. Baxendale. The topic of the research was accessing isatin structures via a newly developed route, and assessing the effect of different aniline starting material substitution patterns on the synthesis. He joined the Zipse group in March 2024 with an initial research theme of organocatalysis.
