Short Biography and Research Focus

Morwenna was raised in Munich and a small town near Nuremberg. She completed her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and her master’s degree in chemistry at Ruhr University Bochum, where she worked on polycationic organic compounds for halogen bond catalysis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefan Huber. She then joined Prof. Philipp Heretsch's group at Freie Universität Berlin for her PhD and later moved with the group to Leibniz University Hannover. Her thesis focused on the total synthesis of lycorine-type Amaryllidaceae alkaloids, combining photochemistry with continuous-flow methods to make complex-molecule synthesis safer and more sustainable.

In 2026, she joined the Zipse group as a postdoctoral scientist. Her current research interests lie in synthetic methodology, particularly reactions that proceed via highly reactive or radical intermediates and can be steered by catalyst and substrate design. She is interested in catalytic and photochemical strategies for complex molecule construction, in understanding their mechanisms, and in designing routes that translate reliably from small-scale experiments to robust, scalable processes.
